Honouring Our 30-Year Legacy & Building for the Future
dance Immersion began in 1994 with a determined Vivine Scarlett working to create more opportunities for Black dance to enrich communities and be enjoyed across Canada. Today, and every day since, dance Immersion recommits to supporting the strength, beauty, diversity, and contribution of African Diasporic dances. We continue to offer quality presentation, skill development, and networking opportunities for Blacks in dance, and the strength of our award-winning programs is growing. This work is all part of our expanding role as a home for the production of exceptional new Black Canadian dance works.
Through our 30 years in service, we have experienced considerable success in connecting dance artists across Canada and around the world. We have produced more than 75 stage and studio presentations, over 300 educational events, directly served more than 2,000 Black Canadian artists to date, and connected with over 35,000 community members.
We are immensely grateful for all of your support over the years, and to have received a legacy gift in the amount of $50,000 from Peggy Baker Dance Projects that recognizes the achievements of our first 30 years, while encouraging our present and continuing successes. $25,000 of this gift will support our Building for the Future Fund and $25,000 will provide a foundation for our new Immersion Residency Scholarship.
Will you lead the way in supporting our continued excellence in championing African Diasporic dance? You can contribute in one of three ways:
- Donate to our new Immersion Residency Scholarship that will promote excellence in dance by providing a Black Canadian choreographer with a paid residency that includes direct mentorship with a senior artist as they develop a dance work.
- Donate to our Building for the Future Fund that supports the expansion of our ongoing presentation, mentorship, and workshop opportunities.
- Sign up to be an Event Volunteer at one or more programs running each season.
