Workshop Description
This workshop explores the history of Jazz dance and Jazz music, and is aimed at those who have a movement practice.
We will focus on the roots of Jazz dance and music, emphasizing grounded, rhythmic traditions and improvisation within the form. Participants will explore steps and intentions critical to maintaining Authentic Jazz’s heritage and creative power.
Bring a towel, comfortable shoes, water and an open spirit.
About LaTasha Barnes
LaTasha Barnes is an internationally recognized and awarded dance artist, tradition-bearer of Black American Social Dance, a renowned educator and tenured faculty as Associate Prof of Dance at Arizona State University. Operating between New York and Phoenix, Barnes’ expansive artistic, competitive, and performative skills have made her a frequent collaborator to esteemed arts & service organizations and artists around the world. She is the Visionary Creator and Artistic Director of the critically acclaimed, award winning intergenerational and intercommunal cultural arts experience and concert work ‘The Jazz Continuum’.
