The incredible Vincent Mantsoe will be facilitating two types of workshop during his stay in Toronto: One for professional dancers and one for youth!
The workshops are open to all.
1. Ritual in Solo Dance Creation & Performance
Co-presented by dance Immersion, Jaberi Dance Theatre and KasheDance
This three-day workshop offers professional dance artists a rare opportunity to step into the world of Vincent Mantsoe, an internationally celebrated performer and choreographer originally from South Africa. Born into a family of Sangomas (traditional healers/shamans), he will share foundational elements of his creative practice, offering a gateway into his process that requires both spiritual and physical rigour.
Participants will be guided through a series of movement explorations, reflective practices, and embodied rituals to deepen their connection to their craft, and begin experimenting with their own ritual-based approaches to creation and performance. This workshop is an introduction to a life-long journey of artistic and spiritual discipline, and a path to channel intuitive knowledge.

BIOGRAPHY

Photos of Vincent by Jasmine Mokgosi
Vincent Sekwati Koko Mantsoe is an internationally acclaimed choreographer, performer, and teacher known for fusing contemporary dance with African spiritual and cultural practices. Born in Soweto, Johannesburg, his early exposure to traditional healing ceremonies led by his Sangoma grandmother, mother, and aunts deeply informed his movement vocabulary and artistic vision.
Mantsoe’s Afro-fusion style blends African dance forms with global influences from Europe and the USA, creating spiritually charged works that explore the interconnectedness of humanity, nature, and ancestral memory. He began his formal dance journey at Moving Into Dance Mophatong under Sylvia Glasser and later founded his own company, Association Noa, in France to promote cross-cultural exchange.
His powerful solo and group works—including Gula ‘Bird’, Mpheyane, and KOMA—have toured globally, earning him numerous accolades such as the Standard Bank Young Artist Award and the Dora Mavor Moore Award. Through residencies and master classes spanning continents, Mantsoe continues to influence and inspire generations of artists worldwide.
Vincent’s Producer for IZILO and this workshop series is Natasha Eck.
